Āe, Mātātuhi Designs is a proudly Māori owned small business based on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. Our designs are inspired by te ao Māori, celebrating Māori culture, identity and creativity through contemporary clothing, accessories, gifts and homewares. We create Māori inspired designs that allow our customers to celebrate their culture and express their identity through everyday products.
Absolutely! Mātātuhi Designs is a Māori owned business run by me, Kelly and is inspired by our culture, creativity and connection to te ao Māori. You can learn more about our journey, the whakaaro (ideas) behind our designs and what inspires us by visiting our About Us page. We also share stories, cultural insights and inspiration through our Mātātuhi Designs Blog.
Our designs are inspired by who we are, where we come from and our connection to Aotearoa. As a proudly Māori owned small pakihi based in Australia, Mātātuhi Designs was born from a love of our culture, our language and the little things that remind us of home.We don’t claim to know everything about te ao Māori, and we’re always learning along the way. What we do know is how important it is to feel connected to your roots, your whānau and the place you call home.Through our Māori inspired clothing, accessories and homewares, we want to create designs that feel familiar, meaningful and easy to incorporate into everyday life. Some designs celebrate te reo Māori, others reflect our culture, humour and identity, but they all come from the same place. Our whakaaro is simple: to give everyone a little piece of home, no matter where in the world they are.Whether you’re Māori living away from Aotearoa, a Kiwi missing home or someone who appreciates our beautiful culture, we hope our designs bring a little bit of Aotearoa into your everyday life.
Āe, we love collaborating with other Māori artists and creatives. At Mātātuhi Designs, we believe in respecting and acknowledging the mahi of other artists. When we collaborate with artists or feature their artwork in our designs, we always seek and receive their permission before using their mahi toi.We also believe in giving credit where it’s due. When a product features artwork created by another artist, we acknowledge them on the individual product page. You’ll also find an Attribution section on relevant product pages, where we share the artist’s name and, wherever possible, a link to their website or the original artwork. For example, we’re honoured to have received permission from Whaea Linda Munn to use the Tino Rangatiratanga flag design on our t-shirts and tote bags. We proudly acknowledge her contribution and the importance of respecting the artists and creators behind the designs we share.Respecting the artists behind the designs and recognising their contributions is an important part of how we operate.
