About Us

Welcome to Mātātuhi Designs, where cultural heritage meets contemporary creativity. Our name, "Mātātuhi", draws from the rich tapestry of the Māori language, embodying the essence of imprinting and design that echoes through generations.

Rooted in the vibrant traditions of the Taranaki iwi, we proudly carry forward the legacy of our ancestors. Our logo, adorned with the Parihaka feather, symbolises resilience, peace, and unity — values deeply ingrained in our cultural identity.

At Mātātuhi Designs, we specialise in crafting apparel and gifts that celebrate Aotearoa's indigenous culture. From intricately designed apparel items to drink coasters, each piece is a labour of love, meticulously produced with Māori language, traditional shapes & symbols, or both.

Based in the sun-kissed lands of Queensland, Australia, our journey is a testament to the fusion of cultures and the spirit of innovation. Every creation is a bridge between the past and the present, honouring our heritage while embracing modernity.

Join us as we weave stories, memories, and traditions into every stitch and print. Whether you're seeking a meaningful gift or adorning yourself with cultural pride, Mātātuhi Designs invites you to experience the beauty of indigenous artistry, one design at a time.

Ko wai au?

Kia ora! Ko Kelly āhau, the founder of Mātātuhi Designs. I was born and raised in Auckland, and my roots run deep in Aotearoa. I’m proudly Māori, with whakapapa tracing back to Ngā Puhi on my father’s side and Taranaki on my mother’s side. While I acknowledge both iwi, my connection to Taranaki is particularly strong, and it deeply influences my work and values.

The story of Mātātuhi Designs is closely tied to my heritage. Our logo features a Parihaka feather, which holds significant meaning for me and our brand. The Parihaka feather symbolises peace, resilience, and the strength of our people. It serves as a reminder of the legacy of Parihaka, a place where our ancestors stood firm in the face of adversity through peaceful resistance. This symbol not only honours that history but also represents our commitment to upholding the principles of peace and cultural integrity in everything we create.

At Mātātuhi Designs, my mission is to share the beauty and depth of Māori culture with the world, ensuring that every piece we create is a reflection of our rich heritage and values.
